Road to Zero Plastic Waste: Ban On Single-Use Plastics, Islamabad

On 7th August 2023, an initiative took place today to raise awareness among the public
regarding the ban on single-use plastics. Single-use plastics plague the environment with
complex issues which affect the environment adversely. Due to their numerous negative
impacts, there is a ban on single-use plastics in restaurants and eateries across
Islamabad. The public was informed of the implementation of the ban through the use of
banners which contributed to effective visual awareness and efficiently communicated the
issue at hand. Through pasting posters across restaurants and having one-on-one
discussions with the public, the interns received hands-on experience regarding working
and communicating with the general public.
The first sector visited was the F-10 area, where posters were pasted at different Desi
eateries and banners were held by the interns near the main road, where the people
passing by could easily observe and read the notice.
The second sector visited was the G-6 area, particularly the Melody Food Park. There,
banners were held, and the local people were informed of the hazards of using single-use plastics. Communication is the key to spreading effective awareness. Thus,
interactions were carried out with the locals while notifying them of the policy enforced.
Afterwards, lunch took place at Savour Foods in Islamabad, which paved the way for an
an exciting afternoon with lots of productive socializing.
After returning back to EPA, a debriefing session took place with Sir Dr. Waheed Yousuf,
the driving force behind today’s campaign, where each intern shared their personal
experience and learnings with the rest. It was a great end to a productive day.
